“Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder” – A phrase most of us are familiar with. While this isn’t something we tend to think about in our everyday lives, it is still apparent all around us. On Sunday Toodie came home and after a much needed nap decided to go out back to play. Usually when we are outside she enjoys running around, kicking her giant red ball on the side of the house, and riding her bike. About 20 minutes into playing I found her picking what looked like flowers out of the ground near the edge of our backyard. Upon a closer look it was really an area covered in weeds! This didn’t stop Toodie. She picked and picked and picked until her little heart was content. Everytime she picked a new one she would look up at me with a huge smile and say, “Mommy look another flowa.” It was the cutest thing and I don’t think I have ever witnessed anyone that HAPPY to pick weeds out of the ground. Even though to me they were just pesky weeds that we really can’t get rid of, to her they were something totally different. She saw them as beautiful little flowers and made her own bouquet out of them.
I treated Toodie’s beautiful stack of weeds just like they were flowers. In a cup full of water they are sitting on our table for her to enjoy when she walks by. I tried to tie a pretty ribbon around them but she wouldn’t have it. She wanted them in that paper cup and no one was going to change her mind. She put a lot of work in pulling out those weeds so we might as well enjoy them!

my kids still can't understand why people think they are weeds!

We used to have a similar plant that only sprouted in the spring. I had to actually take it to one of our specialty nurseries and they told me it was a "Star of Bethlehem" – flower! I don't think we have much of it left now, but I remembered that my girls (when they were little) used to like to go out and pick them too! That, dandelions and buttercups!!
