These delightful and EASY Charlie Brown Brownies are the perfect treat to welcome the upcoming Peanuts DVD & Blu-ray movie release next month!


The Peanuts are back and more charming than ever!  If you’re a fan of the classic characters and their many quirks then you probably hit the theaters to see the whole gang in action. We sure did! In The Peanuts movie, good ol’ Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the rest of the gang appear as you’ve never seen them before. Join everyone’s favorite eternal optimist, Charlie Brown, as he embarks on a heroic quest, while his beagle pal Snoopy takes to the skies to pursue his arch nemesis, the Red Baron. It’s a hilarious and heart-warming adventure, making it the perfect family friendly flick for all ages. With its DVD and Blu-ray release right around the corner, I made these adorable Charlie Brown Brownies to sweeten up our upcoming watch party with friends.

Our family really enjoyed watching The Peanuts in theatres and it actually wasn’t until its debut that I became a true Charlie Brown fan. As shocking as it may be, I didn’t grow up watching Charlie Brown or the Peanut gang. Honestly, I couldn’t tell you why because I remember reading along in the Sunday paper. I only really became familiar with the classic series and the popular American comic strip when Toodie was born. Luckily, my good friend persuaded me to take our kiddos to watch it in theaters and I am beyond happy I gave in. I’ve spent the last thirty years missing out on the entertaining up-hill battles of Charlie Brown and his best four-legged friend who is always there to make those challenges a bit less painful. Needless to say my admiration for this gang has grown immensely. The Peanuts is not only family-friendly but it’s one of those “feel good” kinda flicks that leave you smiling as you walk out of the theater. Personally, those are my kind of movies!

Ingredients:

Directions:

1. Prepare brownies based on instructions on the back of the box. Once cooked and cooled, slice into squares.

2. In a large bowl or stand mixer beat butter and cream cheese together until creamy. Pour in powdered sugar little by little until blended well with other ingredients. Add in 5-6 drops of food coloring and continue to mix until consistency is smooth. 

3. Use a small rubber spatula to frost brownies. 

4. To re-create Charlie Brown’s infamous shirt, melt chocolate morsels in the microwave in 60 second intervals. Use a disposable decorating bag with a thin piping nozzle to trace the chevron pattern onto wax paper. (Direct printable link provided above) The easiest way to do this is to tape the paper to a baking sheet and place the wax paper on top, securing with an additional piece of tape. This will keep them both in place and allow you to achieve cleaner lines. Once finished, place in the refrigerator to harden for 5-10 minutes. They should pop right off when ready. Add one strip to each brownie.
